Findings and opportunities for improving Latvia’s skills performance
On 19 December 2019, the “OECD Skills Strategy for Latvia - Assessment and Recommendations” report was launched in Riga. The report benefited from the financial and expert contribution by the European Commission. Based on the analysis of Latvia’s comparative skills performance, as well as the findings from widespread engagement with stakeholders in Latvia, experts have proposed a number of concrete recommendations to help Latvia develop and effectively use people’s skills.
Some of the key recommendations concern teachers’ professionalism and the selection of best candidates for the teaching profession, pre-primary education quality evaluation, continuation of work-based learning implementation in vocational and higher education, and a shared training fund for adult education.
This analysis and recommendations will support the development of Latvia’s National Medium-term Strategy for Education and Skills for 2021-2027 (information in Latvian language).
More information on the report’s findings and access to the relevant documents are available in the reform chapter in the National Education System Description of Latvia.
