A new remuneration system for teachers introduced in Lithuania
As of 1 September 2018, a new calculation system for teachers' salary has been introduced in Lithuania. Previously teachers in general education, VET and non-formal education (except pre-school and pre-primary education) were paid according to the number of lessons, whereas now their salary is calculated according to a full-time payment system.
The purpose of this implementation is to provide teachers with a fairer remuneration that acknowledges all their activities: not only frontal teaching and lessons preparation, but also communication with parents, assessment of students’ achievements and needs, organisation of extracurricular activities, support and training of future teachers.
Lithuania government expects this new payment system to contribute to a pay raise for teachers and also help to attract younger educators to the teaching profession.
