Spain: the Government organized a Forum on the future of the teaching profession
Last November 6, the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training held the forum "Educating for XXI century. Challenges and proposals about the teaching profession". Leading experts gathered in Madrid to discuss how to improve the Spanish education system. Four main topics were discussed: Initial teachers’ education and training, induction process, teacher appraisal and continuous professional development.
The conference was opened by the Spanish Minister of Education. She mentioned the possibility of establishing some extra requirements to access the Initial teacher Education, both of Pre-Primary, Primary, Secondary Education and Vocational training.
The Minister also announced that some reforms are being considered in order to implement a high quality mentoring process for the induction period and also to create a rigorous teacher appraisal system.
Teachers are invited to express their opinions on these matters through a questionnaire, released after the session. A findings report will be eventually available in three months’ time.
The experts’ proposals, and the videos of the panels of experts are available here.
