Programmes outside the Bachelor and Master Structure

A number of Bachelor programmes take longer than the three or four years normal duration. These are generally in the areas of Architecture and Veterinary Medicine (five years), Dentistry (five years) and Medicine (five/six years).

Competition for entry is very keen in these disciplines and the number of places for such courses is determined by government and agreed by the institutions. Entry to some courses such as art or architecture requires portfolio submissions and sometimes, aptitude tests. There are no specific courses that begin with a first cycle entry and end in a second cycle degree.
