Higher professional education and training (PET) covers the professional, non-academic sector of the tertiary level (Tertiary B). Qualifications are offered which are required for a demanding professional career with specialist or managerial responsibilities. The range of courses offered is varied in respect of content, requirements and providers. The courses are distinguished by their consistent orientation to the needs of the employment market. Higher professional education is of great significance in and for Liechtenstein and can be compared with that of Switzerland (www.sbfi.admin.ch). In contrast to many other countries, such training courses are not pursued at higher education institutions but at so-called colleges of professional education and training (PET Colleges) and usually take the form of part time study.
