There is no separate provision for the education of higher education academic staff in Finland.

The qualification requirements for lecturers are licentiate’s or doctor’s degrees and teaching skills. University lecturers, whose work comprise more research, are required a doctor’s degrees and teaching skills. Also specialisation in some area might be required, depending on the post. In universities of applied sciences (UAS) the qualification requirements for lecturers are a master’s degree and pedagogical training, while principal lecturers are required the postgraduate licentiate’s degree and pedagogical training. The pedagogical training can be completed after nomination. UAS lecturers and principals lecturers are also required a minimum of three years’ work experience in the relevant field.
