5.Single-structure primary and lower secondary education

In accordance with the Framework Law on Primary and Secondary Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina, primary education is compulsory for all children. Compulsory education begins in the calendar year in which the child reaches the age of six by April 1 and lasts continuously during a period of not less than eight years and nine years from 2004. The competent educational authorities, on the initiative or with the consent of the parents and in consultation with other professional and competent institutions, may allow one year of early or delayed commencement of compulsory education, if it is in the best interests of the child. Compulsory education is free of charge. Free primary education is provided for your children. A child within the meaning of this law is any person until the age of eighteen.
