Academic guidance

The Law on Education states that pupils, their parents (foster parents or guardians), teachers and education providers may get educational assistance the aim of which is to increase effectiveness of education.

At school, children are provided with vocational guidance that helps them to assess their learning outcomes and make the right choice when selecting the pathway to learning and career. Schools are also provided with social educational help the aim of which is to assist parents (foster parents or guardians) in implementing the child’s right to education, ensure his/her safety at school and together with the child’s parents (foster parents or guardians) help the child choose a school according to his/her mental and physical abilities and fit into it.

At school, a pupil recognised as having special needs may receive special assistance, including provision of the sign language interpreting, text reading and note-taking as well as other services improving availability of education. 

Psychological counselling

The Law on Education specifies that the purpose of psychological assistance is to strengthen the pupils’ psychological immunity and mental health, promote creation of a safe and supportive learning environment at school through the use of preventive measures and help learners regain emotional harmony and the ability to live and to learn closely cooperating with the learner’s parents (foster parents or guardians).

Psychological assistance to a learner who experiences personal and learning problems is universally rendered by assistance providers who work in close cooperation with the learner’s parents (foster parents or guardians) and teachers and provide consultations to them.

Psychological assistance is provided and prevention of psychological problems is undertaken by psychologists employed at educational psychology services and schools.

Career guidance

The Law on Education states that the purpose of career guidance is through the use of vocational information, vocational guidance and career development tools to help an individual choose the most suitable education and employment, acquire career planning and management skills and actively develop his/her professional career.

Career guidance is carried out by schools and vocational information points set up in them. Vocational information is provided by the following specialists: vocational information consultants (professional advisors, social educators and school psychologists), social teachers, vocational teachers, general education school teachers and form masters/mistresses.
