Definition of the target group

In Higher Education, disabled students benefit from specific measures of support: specific educational material, facilitated access to Higher education institutions, accommodations for exams, etc.

Students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds and foreign students can benefit from financial support.

Specific support measures

Disabled students who wish to go in Higher education programs in lycées (such as a BTS) can benefit from an Individualised accommodation project in the same conditions as in secondary education until the student’s 26th birthday.

In every university, a person is nominated to be in charge of the accommodations of disabled students. The job consists in coordinating measures to better respond to each student’s situation. Moreover, specific measures are taken to improve disabled students’ accommodations, especially in the framework of a Disabled students’ accommodation plan (PAEH):

• Physical accessibility of the university, including restaurants and dwellings;
• Educational support: tutoring, note taker, translator in sign language;
• Technical support.

Moreover, article D613-26 of the French Code of Education provides arrangements conditions of exam and competitive examination in Higher education for disabled students. Arrangement vary according to the exam or the student’s needs: human support, technical support, longer timeframe for the exam, etc.
