11.Quality assurance

Quality Assurance within the Maltese education system falls within the remit of the Ministry for Education, whose aim is that of establishing and maintaining standards in the context of the national qualifications framework. Thehas implemented a mix of internal and external quality assurance. Educational establishments are required to develop and implement their own internal quality assurance policies and procedures. State ECEC and school education providers are supported by the Directorate for Learning and Assessment Programs, on matters related to the implementation of the curriculum, and by the School Internal Review and Support Unit, within the Directorate for Educational Services, on matters related to quality assurance processes. The Directorate for Educational Services also supports and monitors newly qualified teachers, working within state schools, through its induction process. Furthermore, the Council for the Teaching Profession, by virtue of Chapter 327 of the Laws of Malta and its Legal Notice 414, regulates teachers through its warranting procedure. The Directorate for Quality and Standards in Education (DQSE) is responsible for external quality assurance of schools, teachers and formal and non-formal learning programmes delivered within ECEC and School Education, by virtue of Chapter 327 of the Laws of Malta, while the National Commission for Further and Higher Education is responsible for external quality assurance of further and higher education, including adult education, by virtue of Subsidiary Legislation 327.433. The University of Malta; the Malta College for Arts, Science and Technology and the Institute for Tourism Studies are designated self-accrediting institutions by virtue of Subsidiary Legislation 327.433.
