Organisational aspects

Continuing training for professors in higher education depends on the actors’ own initiatives. In many cases, it is based on the voluntary involvement of the beneficiaries.

A number of organisations offer continuing education for higher education staff, including FOCEN and the Catholic Institute for Continuing Training of Teachers in Secondary and Tertiary Education (ICAFOC). Other centres also conduct various educational activities and provide facilities for training courses. Some training courses are also organised with the support of universities or Hautes écoles and are held on their premises. The same applies to some training courses organised with the support of businesses. This type of partnership is becoming more widespread.

Incentives for participation in continuing professional development (CPD) activities

There is no general system of incentives for continuing training for teachers in higher education. Of course, experience of continuing training represents an advantage with respect to certain forms of promotion.
