The follow-up study is completed by the Maturita examination. The shortened study is completed by Maturita or VET final examination, depending on the type of study. The conditions of organisation of both examinations are specified in the Education Act, the Decree on the Maturita Examination in Upper Secondary Schools and the Decree on Completion of Education in Upper-secondary Schools in the Form of a VET Final Examination, and on Completion of Education in Conservatoires in the Form of a Graduate Examination.

The follow-up study is completed by the Maturita examination. The profile part of the Maturita examination consists of 2 or 3 compulsory examinations. Based on the framework education programme, the school head sets the offer of compulsory subjects in the profile part of the examination in such a way that the learner takes at least 2 compulsory examinations in the area of vocational education. One of the compulsory examinations must take the form of practical work or a thesis.

Participants who complete their studies at upper secondary schools in shortened study to acquire secondary education with the Maturita examination, i.e. those who have already acquired secondary education with the Maturita examination, do not sit for the common part of the Maturita examination.

The school head can recognize some of the partial examinations necessary for passing the VET final examination in the shortened study leading to the VET certificate if the content of this partial examination corresponds to the content of the partial examination which the learner has previously passed when terminating prior education.

For further details on completing education with the Maturita examination or the VET final examination with a VET certificate see Certification in upper secondary education.
