9.7Initial education for teachers and trainers working in adult education and training

Requirements

Teacher qualifications for basic school (základní škola), upper secondary school (střední škola), conservatoires (konzervatoře) and tertiary professional schools (vyšší odborná škola) as well as qualification of the teachers of artistic vocational subjects at basic art schools (základní umělecké školy), secondary technical schools and conservatoires are stipulated in the Act on Education Staff. Teachers participating in the education of adults in schools do not need any special training for teaching adults.

The Act on Education Staff apply also to teachers in other types of schools:

A teacher at a school facility for the further education of education staff (pedagog v zařízení pro další vzdělávání pedagogických pracovníků) can acquire professional qualifications through completing an accredited Master's study programme in the field that corresponds to the character of the educational subject and through teaching practice or practice that corresponds to the character of the educational subjects with the length of 4 years minimum.

A teacher at a language school authorised to organise state language examinations (učitel jazykové školy s právem státní jazykové zkoušky) acquires professional qualification in one of the following ways:

  • Master's study programme in the field of pedagogical sciences focused on educating teachers of relevant foreign languages;

  • Master's study programme in the field of social sciences focused on relevant foreign languages followed by one of the options below:

    • a) higher education in the field of pedagogical sciences focused on teacher training;

    • b) a lifelong learning programme organised by a higher education institution (vysoká škola) with a focus on teacher training, or

    • c) study of pedagogy;

  • Master's study programme in the field of pedagogical sciences, passing the language examination from the given language on the minimum level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages and supplementary didactic study of the relevant language;

  • any Master's study programme, passing the language examination from the given language at the minimum level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages, programme of lifelong learning at a higher education institution focused on teacher training and supplementary didactic study of the relevant language.

The lifelong learning programme organised by a higher education institution, study of pedagogy, and supplementary didactic study are provided within in-service teachers training.

 

For academics teaching in the lifelong learning programmes in higher education institutions specific conditions are not laid down.

 

Various professional associations set forth their own requirements for the competence of lecturers who work in internal educational systems of relevant sectors (fields).

The qualifications of trainers and instructors working for commercial institutions, as well as the quality of teaching in these institutions are rarely monitored.
