Types of institutions

Currently, preparatory courses for Master craftsman’s diplomas (brevet de maîtrise) are exclusively offered by the chamber of Trade (Chambre des métiers).

Geographical accessibility

Courses are held in the Chamber of Trade’s training centre in Luxembourg City, in technical secondary schools or the national centres for continuing vocational training (CNFPC), which are located in the north (Ettelbruck) and the south (Esch/Alzette) of the country. The general courses, which have to be taken by students of all professions, are also offered in Luxembourg, Ettelbruck and Esch/Alzette.

Admission requirements and choice of school

To be enrolled to this type of preparatory courses, candidates have to hold a technical and professional qualification certificate (CATP; certificat d’aptitude technique et professionnelle) or a vocational aptitude diploma (DAP; diplôme d'aptitude professionnelle) in the chosen profession, a secondary school leaving diploma (diplôme de fin d’études secondaires), a technician’s diploma (DT; diplôme de technicien) with an appropriate specialisation, a higher educational diploma or a qualification recognized equivalent by the ministry of Education.

Age levels and grouping of students

Courses are open to all adults aged 18 or above. They are not divided into age groups.

Organisation of the school year

Courses take place from September to March. Each year, the candidates choose the modules they wish to attend. The chamber of Trade also proposes a non-compulsory reference pathway that allows candidates to complete their courses within three years.

Organisation of the school day and week

Courses take place during evenings or weekends.
