Other Dimensions of Internationalisation in Adult Education and Training

Iceland is an equal partner with full rights and obligations in the EU’s Lifelong Learning Programme (LLP). The Icelandic Lifelong Learning Programme National Agency is hosted by the Icelandic Center for Research Rannís.

Global and Intercultural Dimension in Curriculum Development

Higher education institutions have full autonomy regarding their study programs and curriculum. Consequently, the integration of international dimension varies from institution to institution. There is although a certain increase in offering of courses in English in some higher education institutions, such as University of Iceland and The University of Reykjavík. The Science and Technology Policy Council is to encourage higher education institutions to seek international cooperation in research and graduate studies.

Partnership and Networks

The administration of international co-operation in the field of education is the responsibility of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture and the Icelandic Center for Research, serving all institutions at the tertiary level, handles student and teacher exchange both through agreements with individual institutions abroad and the exchange programmes which form a part of the Nordic co-operation and the co-operation with the European Union, in which Iceland participates being a party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area.
