European, Global and Intercultural Dimension in Curriculum Development

Municipal Adult Education (Komvux) is regulated by the Education Act (Skollagen, 2010:800) and the Ordinance on Municipal Adult Education (Förordning om vuxenutbildning, 2011:1108). The new Education Act applies to Municipal Adult Education from 1 July 2012. A new curriculum for adult education school forms was adopted in 2012 and applies to all adult education from 1 January 2013. The curriculum for adult education (Läroplan för vuxenutbildningen, 2012) is available in Swedish only. 
 
The adult education curriculum mentions the international perspective as one of four perspectives that should influence all learning, along with the ethical, environmental and historical perspectives. The curriculum further states that schools should help pupils develop an identity that can be related to and encompass Swedish as well as Nordic, European and ultimately global values. International links, education exchanges with other countries and working experience in other countries should be supported. The education should create international solidarity and prepare pupils for a society that will have close cross-cultural and cross-border contacts.
 

Partnerships and Networks

The Swedish Council for Higher Education is a government agency that promotes academic exchanges and cooperation across national borders. The council hosts a number of programmes to enable educational exchanges as well as a few programmes that offer professional development and international networks för teachers and pupils. 

The Global School is a programme that offers professional development for teachers in topics related to sustainable development, from an environmental, economic and/or social perspective. The programme organises seminars, conferences and courses as well as training courses in developing countries. The Global School is aimed at staff at all levels of education, from preschool to adult education. The programme is administered by the Swedish Council for Higher Education. 

The Learning Teacher Network is a European educational network performing as an international platform for professional debate in the vanguard of educational progress. The network embraces practitioners in school, trainers, researchers and other educational experts within the whole range of education from pre-school to universities.
