13.Mobility and internationalisation

13.3Mobility in adult education and training

Last update: 21 June 2022

Learner mobility in adult education

Erasmus+ Unlike the EU Lifelong Learning Programme, the Erasmus+ programme no longer supports the individual mobility of adult learners. However, support is provided for the mobility of adult learners in general within the framework of the strategic partnerships under Key Action 2.

The Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe (EPALE) will be launched in 2015.

Teacher and trainer mobility in adult education

Erasmus+ Teachers and other adult education staff may continue to benefit from short or long periods of individual learning abroad through the Erasmus+ programme. Within the framework of strategic partnerships, the current three staff mobility activities (in-service training, teaching assistant training and visits and exchanges) will be combined to contribute to the modernisation of organisations concerned with adult education.

The aim of Erasmus+ for teachers in adult education is to develop and/or strengthen knowledge, skills and competences by means of teaching/training assignments, or staff training through participation in courses or through job-shadowing/observation, with a partner abroad.

Target group Professionals: all professionals involved in adult education. Applications for grants should be submitted by an organisation.

Goal International mobility that contributes to:

  • developing both language skills and competences relevant to the profession;
  • generating a wider understanding of adult education in other European countries;
  • improving the quality of teaching and learning;
  • modernising and internationalising adult education.

Both teachers and students may use the Europass to increase their mobility. See 13.2.1 for more information.
