Extension of incentive programme to create childcare places

The Confederation continues to promote the creation of childcare places. The Federal Act on Financial Assistance for Childcare, which entered into force in February 2003, is being extended for the third time for the period 2019 to 2023. The funding commitment amounts to CHF 124.5 million. With the incentive programme the Confederation has supported the creation of around 57,400 new childcare places since 2003.

Additional support for childcare

The Parliament adopted the amendment of the Federal Act on Financial Assistance for Childcare in June 2017. This introduces two new funding instruments: firstly, financial support for those cantons which increase childcare subsidies and improve provision. And secondly, funding for projects targeting childcare provision that is better tailored to the needs of parents. 97 million Swiss francs are being made available over five years to fund the two new types of financial assistance.
