Training for people who stage education events for adults is – with the exception of courses at higher education institutions and colleges of higher education – not regulated by the state. Nevertheless, individuals active in CPD must, alongside specialist knowledge, increasingly demonstrate methodological and teaching skills.

Training courses of varying durations are offered; these build on each other. The courses are checked and recognised by the Swiss Federation for Adult Learning (SVEB):

  • The SVEB Trainer Certificate and the SVEB Professional Practice Trainer Certificate are usually required by educational institutions as a basic qualification for adult education and continuing education and training (CET) activities.
  • The Swiss Federal Certificate “Trainer” is the continuing qualification for course leaders who lead and develop courses autonomously.
  • The Swiss Federal Diploma “Training Manager” is directed at professionals who have CET management functions.

A Master of Advanced Studies (MAS) and a Diploma of Advanced Studies (DAS) in adult education are also offered as is the degree Qualified Adult Educator (College of Higher Education).
