The Institutes for Continuing Education in Schools were previously independent institutions with their own head teachers.
Until 2007 the Institutes for Continuing Education were independent institutions with their own headmaster. Since the 2007-2008 school year, the Institutes for Continuing Education, which were under the sponsorship of a school authority that also had a full-time teaching facility at the level of the regular secondary school system, have been affiliated to this institution. They no longer have an independent director, but are now under the direction of the director of the secondary school.
Since the reform in 2007, the German-speaking Community therefore only has one independent evening school, which is headed by a director.
