Initial education of adult education teachers and trainers is the same as for those working in primary and secondary education.

Within tertiary education, Bachelor, Master and PhD studies of adult education studies are available, intended to prepare students for work in this field – as adult education teachers, adult education assistants or adult education specialists. However, graduates specialising in any of the fields taught as part of adult education programmes are eligible to adult education teaching given that there are no legal specifications on how they specialise for work with adults – same rules of initial education apply equally as for other teachers (see the section on Initial Education for Teachers Working in Early Childhood and School Education).
