Administration and Secretariat office
According to law 4763/2020, an administration - secretariat office operates to support every Institute of Vocational Education (IEK). The administration and secretariat office responds to mail protocol promptly. It handles and files documents. It also deals with the head’s correspondence. Last, it copies documents and other printed material. Positions at the administration - secretariat office are held by:
- Transferred employees, teachers or administrators, category PE, TE Administrative or DE of the Ministry of Education or its supervised bodies or any other public service. The transfer of the above is carried out in accordance with the current provisions on the Single Mobility System.
- Teachers of primary or secondary education, who are seconded, at their request, to carry out administrative work.
The administration and secretariat office is staffed by:
- 2 people for Vocational training institute where up to 80 students
- 3 people for Vocational training institute where up to 180 students study
- 4 people for Vocational training institute where up to 400 students
- 5 people for Vocational training institute where above to 400 students study.
Advisory bodies of second chance schools (SDE)
According to ministerial decision 5953/23-6-2014, as amended and in force, in the interests of the smooth operation of SDE, the following advisory bodies are established:
- The pedagogical advisor (member of the Monitoring and Support Committee of the Educational work of SDEs)
- The career advisor
- The psychologist advisor.
Three-member committees select the above advisors according to specific criteria. They are appointed for a definite period of time. The committees consist of:
- The head of the relevant SDE.
- Two members nominated by the General Secretariat for Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Lifelong Learning.
The staff selection procedures are over until 30 June of each year. If new positions arise during the school year, they can be covered at once by the reserve list of suitable candidates. The career advisor and the psychologist advisor provide their services during school times:
- Two days per week in SDEs that have 4 classes
- 3 days per week for SDEs that have 4 classes and above.
Formal qualifications – duties
The pedagogical advisor
He must be a teacher with a PhD or master’s degree in:
- Adult education or
- Continuous education or
- Lifelong learning education or
- Management of educational units or
- Other specialisations.
Another prerequisite criterion for applicants so far as it relates to the award of bonus points is 4 year experience as a head or educational or scientific staff in second chance schools (SDEs). The pedagogical advisor:
- Monitors and supports the educational work of schools.
- Submits proposals to the school head and the school teachers' board on the pedagogical and educational support of teachers.
The career advisor
He must be an HE graduate of either of the below:
- Faculty of Psychology
- Faculty of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology with a major in psychology or pedagogy
- School of Education
- Departments of Philosophy and Social Studies
- Sociology
- Social Anthropology
- Social Administration with a major in social work
- Department of Educational and Social Policy with a specialisation in continuous education.
The applicants must be graduates of a Greek HEI or a foreign HEI recognised by the Greek State as equivalent. In the case of foreign degrees, official recognition is required by DIKATSA or DOATAP (Hellenic Naric). The career advisor:
- Provides individual and group counselling aiming at facilitating and supporting learners in view of entering or re-entering the labour market.
- Searches for information sources.
- Collects, organises and provides informative material able to meet the needs/requests of learners with regard to their professional capabilities.
- Communicates with other bodies/services specialised in issues related to the labour market, educational bodies, training providers.
- Refers learners to the appropriate services.
- Creates records of learners.
- Organises a system for monitoring their development.
The psychologist advisor
He/she must hold an HE degree of the:
- Faculty of Psychology or
- Faculty of Philosophy, Pedagogy and Psychology with a major in psychology.
The degree must be from a Greek University or a recognised university degree awarded by a foreign HEI. DIKATSA or DOATAP (Hellenic Naric) verifies the equivalence and correspondence of the qualification. He/she must be authorised to practice psyschology, as well. The psychologist advisor:
- Provides individual and group counselling in order to facilitate and support learners who find it difficult to function in the specific educational context
- Collects, organises and provides information so as to cover the needs/requests of the trainees’ concerning their psychological and personal development
- Co-operates, informs and supports educators so as to address the problems that arise.
