In the Slovak Republic, a general term ‘pedagogical employee’ is used in relation to schools in regional education. Pedagogical employees perform educational activities in the following categories:

• tutor, 
• accompanist,
• sports coach,
• pedagogical assistant, 
• foreign teacher, 
• school special pedagogue,
• professional development instructor.

Categories of pedagogical employees responsible for the implementation of school educational programmes, educational programmes or provision of education in social assistance facilities include:

• kindergarten teacher, 
• teacher at the first stage of primary school, 
• teacher at the second stage of primary school, 
• secondary school teacher, 
• elementary arts school teacher ,
• language school teacher. 

Categories of pedagogical employees participating in the implementation of school educational programmes or educational programmes include:

• pedagogical assistant, 
• foreign teacher, 
• school special pedagogue.
