Based on the Law on Pre-university education system education in distance is defined as a way of  education  process where the teacher and student are not at the same place in the same time and is realized merely by assistance of communication and information technology.

The same law grants education at home conditions in specific cases for all cases of basic education or for some of them. Education can be also conducted in non-school institutions such as for instance in the case of those students of school age that suffer a sentence in pre-prisoning institutions, institutions of sentence sufferings and institutions of social care.
