This section provides the most recent available data on the number of education institutions from pre primary to upper secondary education level (ISCED level 0-3). Statistics on numbers and charracteristics of higher education institutions can be found in the European Tertiary Education register. A general overview of the categories of institutions providing publicly-subsidised adult education and training can be found in the chapter on adult education . The notes below the tables provide methodological explanations necessary for a good interpretation of data.

Notes:

  • The approach taken to count education institutions is the legal entity approach whereby an educational institution corresponds to an administrative entity led by a head of school/institution. Nationwide in Albania there are only two places where special education for children with seeing and hearing difficulties and for children with late development is offered. Each of these two places includes a kindergarten and a school offering primary and lower secondary education. They are both situated in Tirana. Therefore, within the same building there exist two educational institutions i.e. kindergarten and schools which makes four of them in total as explained in the table. All these institutions are public. It's a government's priority to include pupils of this age in non-special school where they are assisted by assistant teachers.
