This section provides the most recent available data on the number of educational institutions at pre-primary, primary and secondary education level (ISCED levels 0-3). Information on tertiary education institutions (ISCED levels 5-8), can be found in the European Tertiary Education Register. A general overview of the categories of institutions providing publicly-subsidised adult education and training can be found in the chapter on adult education. The notes below the tables provide methodological explanations necessary for a good interpretation of data.

Notes

The legal entity approach was used in collecting data on the number of institutions.

There are no government-dependent private schools in Serbia. 

Statistical data on primary schools is collected only for the total number of institutions regardless of their status (public or private). The number of private - government independent schools is deducted from the publicly available list of accredited private schools in Serbia. 

Schools on the upper secondary level can offer general, vocational or both general and vocational education. Mixed schools are more often in smaller towns.
